The best fact we could find: California is home to the oldest tree on earth, it’s 5,000 years old!
California dreamin’! The PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing has now come to an end and it’s been a very exciting few weeks out on the road for the team.
- First stop for us was at PGA West in La Quinta, California for an activation showcasing Callaway Golf’s new Mavrik range of drivers, fairway woods, and irons as well as Odyssey’s brand-new Triple Track putters!
- Onwards to San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines which saw the return of Tiger Woods for the 2020 season. Whilst at Torrey Pines, we were running the third activation in the series of 5 for MD Anderson Cancer Center with MMI Agency -educating fans on protecting yourself from skin cancer.
- Next up – Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where we had an activation with Citrix, where fans had a chance at putting on the 18th green on a custom putting simulator.
- Final stop – back down to LA for The Genisis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods where we put together a stunning long putt challenge with Vineyard Vines which was in a prime location overlooking the range and the infamous 10th tee.
We caught up with Senior Event Manager, Matt Nicolle who was lucky enough to be at every event on the west coast… we are not jealous at all – nope!
What was your best moment from your time in California?
I grew up in Jersey and have always loved the ocean, the best moment for me was being in Monterrey and driving around 17-mile drive chasing the sunset. The coastline is spectacular and left untouched. The golf courses within 17-mile drive are also pretty special!
Best place you ate?
We had a fantastic meal in Del Mar, San Diego at The Poseidon. Right on the seafront, serving amazingly fresh seafood.
Did you get to play any golf on your days off ?
We were lucky enough to get a game at PGA West right after The American Express Championship. It is an incredible golf course, set in Palm Desert. Designed by the late, legendary golf course designer Pete Dye, who was tasked to build the toughest golf course in the world!
What was your favourite event and why?
For me personally, my favourite was The Amex Championships, where we launched the new Callaway Mavrik product line. I am a bit of a golf equipment nerd and having the opportunity to custom fit customers getting them engaged and excited about a brand-new product was great fun!
How was California compared to back home?
For a start the weather! I don’t think it rained once and it was pretty much sunny everyday! I love the outdoors and exploring, California is perfect for this. From surfing In Encinitas, people watching On Venice Boardwalk, to cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway!
